Jeep Revamps Grand Wagoneer: Electric Power, New Trims

Jeep is hitting the reset button on its full-size SUV strategy, responding to early criticisms surrounding the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. The core changes focus on streamlining the lineup, enhancing value, and embracing electrification.

The most significant shift? The "Wagoneer" name is being retired. Moving forward, all models will be known as Grand Wagoneer, starting with the comprehensively updated 2026 lineup. Jeep is also re-emphasizing its own brand identity, moving away from the idea of Wagoneer as a separate, premium sub-brand. This is reflected in the revised pricing strategy, with the base model starting under $65,000.

Electrified Performance and Familiar Power

The 2026 Grand Wagoneer will introduce a range-extended plug-in hybrid (REEV) powertrain. This system utilizes a gasoline engine as a generator, promising exceptional performance with a projected 647 horsepower and 620 lb-ft of torque. Jeep estimates a 0-60 mph time of just 5.0 seconds. The REEV system should deliver around 150 miles of all-electric range and approximately 500 miles of total range.

Prior to the arrival of the REEV variant, the 2026 Grand Wagoneer will launch with the familiar Hurricane I-6 gasoline engine.

Fresh Design and Diverse Trims

The 2026 Grand Wagoneer showcases a refreshed exterior design, featuring a redesigned front end, a broader color palette with lighter shades, and a more assertive look. The grille features illuminated slots, and T-shaped LED lights are integrated into the lower fascia. Wheel options range from 18 to 22 inches.

Jeep is also introducing a more distinct trim level strategy:

  • Entry-level: Replacing the outgoing Wagoneer.
  • Limited: Adds Nappa leather heated rear seats.
  • Limited Reserve: Gains a 19-speaker McIntosh audio system, black appearance package, tri-pane sunroof, power steps, and a head-up display.
  • Upland: A new off-road focused model with tow hooks, special 20-inch wheels, a roof rack, air suspension, skidplates, and all-season tires.
  • Summit: The top-tier model featuring Nappa leather and open-pore walnut trim.
  • Summit Reserve: Offers exclusive interior color options (black, tupelo, or dark ruby red), Palermo leather quilted heated and cooled seats, a front console cooler, a suede headliner, and a 23-speaker McIntosh audio system.

Saying Goodbye to Chrome

Jeep is phasing out chrome trim across its lineup. The decision stems from environmental concerns related to the hazardous chemicals used in the chrome plating process. A silver metallic trim will replace chrome on the Grand Wagoneer, Wagoneer S, Jeep Cherokee, and Grand Cherokee.

REEV Details: The Electric Revolution

The range-extended plug-in hybrid powertrain is a major step for Stellantis. The Grand Wagoneer REEV uses a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine as a generator to charge a 92-kWh battery pack. It operates with twin motors. Though it's slightly different than the Ram 1500 REV configuration, the Grand Wagoneer will still feature impressive range and power numbers.

The system can operate in three modes: full EV, top-up (maintaining battery charge), and full-power (for demanding situations like towing).

Hurricane I-6 Still in the Mix

The standard-output 3.0-liter Hurricane twin-turbo I-6 engine remains an option, producing 420 horsepower and 468 lb-ft of torque with a towing capacity of up to 10,000 pounds. A higher-output Hurricane variant is under consideration for a future release.

The Return of Hemi and SRT?

While not confirmed, Jeep hasn't ruled out the possibility of a Hemi V-8 engine or an SRT variant for the Grand Wagoneer in the future.

Staggered Launch, Prioritizing Quality

The 2026 Grand Wagoneer will launch in phases, starting with the gasoline-powered model later this year. The REEV version is expected to follow in the second quarter of 2026. Quality control is a top priority.

Competitive Pricing

The 2026 Grand Wagoneer is priced from $64,740. The Summit Obsidian model begins at $98,985. This is part of a strategy to compete more directly with mainstream competitors like the Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, and GMC Yukon.
